Amazon Japan has announced that it will use air cargo services to extend its next-day delivery to Hokkaido. The company plans to utilize passenger aircraft on the Haneda-Chitose route to transport hundreds of thousands of packages each month. As a result, customers in Hokkaido (excluding remote islands) who place orders by noon the previous day will be able to receive their items the following day. Additionally, some areas in Hokkaido, including Sapporo, Asahikawa, Hakodate, and Obihiro, will offer same-day delivery for approximately 200,000 eligible items.
Previously, Amazon used trucks and ferries to transport goods from Honshu to Hokkaido, which took over two days. With the implementation of air transport to Hokkaido, Amazon's next-day delivery service now covers all 47 prefectures in Japan, from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south, allowing over 7 million items to be delivered nationwide the next day.
With the expansion of next-day delivery services to Hokkaido, consumers across Japan can now benefit from this service. Amazon will be able to provide fast and convenient delivery to more customers, including not only Hokkaido residents but also temporary workers or travelers. In recent years, Amazon has accelerated its logistics investment in its Japanese sites to offer faster and more reliable shopping experiences for Japanese consumers. Currently, Amazon operates over 25 distribution centers and more than 50 delivery stations in Japan, ensuring highly reliable delivery across the country.
